This book the title of which is Notable Features of African Folktales is a call for all lovers of folktales in Africa to be aware of the desultory conditions of the tales. There is need for them to device how to handle the problems which are threatening the existence of folktales throughout the entire continent. That which was handed to our generation by our ancestors has been disfigured and if not urgently handled, may become extinct.
The first section of the book consists of critical analysis of the tales. In this way, the reader is let into how the tales are supposed to exist and function in society especially how they helped our ancestors in sustaining their society in a very entertaining way. That Africans have adopted Western culture does not give them enough reason to throw away theirs. The second section is a collection of many tales of all types, the introductory songs and the concluding parts of the tales.
Although the researcher concentrated his work in the Igbo land of southeastern Nigeria, what he comes up with can be useful to the entire continent since it has been observed that there is much similarity in the tales of all the nations of Africa. To buttress this point, he has to cite his references from all parts of the continent.
